A lot has changed since the journey began, both within e-commerce and how people shop. Since spring 2025, Qliro has been part of that journey, helping develop both the shopping experience and the business across the Nordics.

With a vision of bringing together smart, innovative products that genuinely improve everyday life, SmartaSaker was founded in 2006. What started 20 years ago as storage in Ella Stemme’s apartment in Stockholm has grown into both physical stores and a well-known e-commerce business across the Nordics and Europe.

From the start, SmartaSaker has focused on finding products that solve real problems, offer something new, and stay high-quality over time. The company highlights both smart ideas and the people behind them, with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and customer experience. This is clear when Ella gives a tour of the Sankt Eriksplan store, where new products are displayed alongside classics that have been there since the beginning.

THE CHALLENGE – FINDING A PARTNER FOR THE BIGGER PICTURE

Over the years, SmartaSaker has seen payments evolve from being purely transactional into an important part of the overall customer experience. As customer behaviors and expectations continued to evolve, it became increasingly important for the checkout experience to feel smart, simple, and thoughtfully designed. After all, customer experience has always been central to SmartaSaker, both in-store and online.

These changes led SmartaSaker to review and simplify the customer journey. Previous checkout solutions created additional steps across different flows, resulting in a less seamless experience for customers. At the same time, it became clear that they wanted to work more closely with a partner that focuses on more than just the transaction itself, someone genuinely interested in the broader business and in how the customer experience can continue to evolve together over time.

In April 2025, SmartaSaker went live with Qliro together with Askås as their platform partner, with the goal of creating a smarter and more seamless shopping experience for customers across the Nordics.

From the very beginning, the dialogue between the teams has been about more than just transactions and checkout, with a shared focus on continuously developing the entire customer experience and creating value for the business as a whole. With all relevant and most requested payment methods in place early on, SmartaSaker has been able to continue evolving the shopping experience in line with both customer and market expectations.

In a fast-changing and competitive market, SmartaSaker has stayed strong for 20 years by leading in innovation and customer experience. For example, they have added an AI-powered search tool to their website, making it easier for customers to find what they need. A tour of the Sankt Eriksplan store with Ella shows how new technology and classic innovation work together. Next to the new AI feature, which is also in the store, you’ll find the iconic “Alligator” onion chopper, still a favorite product after more than 20 years.

Looking ahead, Ella and the SmartaSaker team want to keep shining a light on the people behind the inventions. After several years as a Gasell company, SmartaSaker plans to support smart ideas even more through things like innovation awards, new events for entrepreneurs, new partnerships, and future growth.
